Thiess JV secures $260m contract for Wheatstone LNG project in Australia

EBR Staff Writer Published 31 January 2012

BEST JV, a joint venture between Leighton Holdings subsidiary Thiess and Belgian company BESIX, has secured a $260m contract for the Wheatstone LNG project in Australia.

The scope of work includes development of the breakwater and materials offloading facility (MOF) of the Chevron-operated LNG and domestic gas project near Onslow in the State's north-west.

Thiess managing director Bruce Munro said this partnership creates a new specialist marine capability to support the booming LNG sector and the productive and ongoing relationship with Chevron Australia.

Work on the project is scheduled to start on site later this 2012.

Thiess is contracted to Bechtel for the breakwater/MOF T which is delivering the work packages for Chevron.

Previously, Thiess has secured a micro-tunnelling contract direct with Chevron.
